Career Description




Positions in this class provide case management, crisis intervention, and group therapeutic counseling services to individuals, families, and clients at our maximum-security facility that focuses on building skills to allow transitioning residents into the community. These services include the assessment and treatment of complex cases such as mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.

Duties and Tasks

Interview clients to collect information necessary to evaluate the need for services.Analyze information obtained through records, testing, consultative reports, and related professional sources to appraise interests, aptitudes, abilities, and related characteristics; participate as a member of a triage team to develop and maintain treatment and rehabilitative plans for each client.Provide direct case management, counseling or psychotherapy and addressing problems of a complex nature to individual, family, and group clients.Provide individual skills work or individual therapy to clients as assigned. Coordinate or facilitate appropriate therapeutic services to clients through the use of community service providers.Serve as a therapist to high-risk clients such as sex offenders, potentially violent, and/or severely mentally ill.Aid clients in utilizing offered programs and applying the skills learned to affect successful transition into the community.Observe and monitor client behavior to determine effectiveness of counseling techniques.Consult with other staff members involved with the client to assess treatment and rehabilitation plan progress.Provide ongoing recommendations regarding client treatment and rehabilitation plans.Prepare and maintain case records for each client according to appropriate reporting guidelines.Work with community caseworkers to assist in rehabilitation of the client within the family or group setting; assist with family assessment, goal setting, and training to facilitate achievement of family goals.Provide training, evaluation, or supervision of other staff and/or students in the counseling field as needed.Serve as a liaison or reference/coordinator for children/families for necessary community services; monitor services for continued applicability.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in one of the following disciplines: social work, counseling (including addiction counseling), psychology, criminal justice, or sociology and two years of professional therapeutic counseling experience; or a master's degree in one of the listed fields.

As a Licensed Addiction Counselor with the ND Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team to conduct assessments and referrals, facilitate evidence-based programming and individual counseling, provide case management, crisis intervention, and group therapeutic counseling services to individuals, families, and clients at our correctional facilities. Starting Salary: $6,067.Addiction Counselor II - Requires a bachelor's degree in Addiction Counseling, Addiction Studies, Social Work, Counseling or Psychology, Licensure as an Addiction Counselor (LAC) by the ND Board of Addition Counseling Examiners, and Two years of experience as a Licensed Addiction Counselor. A Master's Degree in one of the majors listed above will substitute for one year of experience. Only professional-level addiction counselor experience in a private or public facility is qualifying and given credit. Starting Salary: $6,203.

Career Description




The individual will work as a team member in an infirmary/clinic setting and within the Medical and Psychiatric Service Program. The position requires a holistic approach to health care service with emphasis on health maintenance through patient education and positive self-initiative. Specific duties include but are not limited to provision of health care nursing to the resident population; dispensing medication; emergency nursing care; participation in behavioral management procedures and infection control; thorough documentation of patient care and medical records; and individual, group and wellness education.

Minimum Qualifications

RN must be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the ND Board of Nursing. Requires interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to perform job duties and must have ability to work with an inmate population on a daily basis. Strong clinical skills required. Psychiatric, medical surgical, and critical care background preferred, but not necessary. Individual must be flexible and innovative in carrying out assigned responsibilities. Must successfully complete standard background and criminal record check and drug screening.LPN requires current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the North Dakota Board of Nursing or licensure in another state and meet the eligibility requirements for licensure in North Dakota. North Dakota licensure is a condition of employment, and the employing agency will verify and document licensure upon appointment.

Work involves assisting dentist in providing dental care to residents in the North Dakota State Penitentiary. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to screening for dental emergencies, providing chair-side assistance and maintenance of dental records, preparing dental treatment (set up and break down operatories) and patients for treatment.You will also record dental and medical history or data, set up and maintain dental equipment, which includes sterilizing or disinfecting dental instruments, completing patient consent forms and co-pay vouchers, and exposing both intra oral and extra oral digital dental radiographs.Administrative duties include tracking patient appointments, lab cases, and supply inventory/management. Because secure correctional facilities are the workplace, additional duties will require dental office security to include instrument, chemical and needle counts and maintaining an accurate log of supplies and instruments for inventory. Some day travel between DOCR correctional facilities may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Required current certificate in dental assisting, registered dental assistant with the ND State Board of Dental Examiners, and prior dental assistance work experience.

The therapist is responsible for providing Brief Strategic Family Therapy Services for families where a child or children are at-risk of out-of-home placement. With a focus on family preservation, this position will utilize philosophy and skills acquired through Brief Strategic Family Therapy model training and passing competency panel. The position will serve the Fargo Metro area, as well as surrounding areas in Southeast ND.

Duties and Tasks

Therapy: Provides family therapy services in compliance with the Brief Strategic Family Therapy model; Serves as advocate for services for families; makes recommendations related to individual treatment as needed. Documentation and Record Keeping: Completes documentation congruent with the BSFT model; when appropriate, will complete Title IV-E billing in the portal; DJS Time logs; timesheets for payroll. Other duties: Participate in consultation sessions, education, and training opportunities; participate in supervision and other agency related meetings; provide testimony on behalf of agency as needed; and all other duties as assigned. The duties of the position does require travel. No on-call requirements. Ability to work remotely/home office. Flexible 40-hour work schedule. Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in mental health, social work, family-marriage area of counseling or related fieldOR Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of clinical experience working with families may qualify.
