Interest is charged on past-due support when the support was ordered by a North Dakota court. The 2024 interest rate is 11.50%. Interest is charged on the past-due principal balance (simple interest).

Interest accrual may be suspended by entering into a payment plan with Child Support. After complying with the payment plan, remaining interest may be waived. Contact Child Support to learn more about interest suspension and waiver.

Interest isn't automatically charged when North Dakota Child Support is enforcing a different jurisdiction's child support order. If the other jurisdiction's order is subject to interest charges of that jurisdiction, North Dakota will enter the interest charges reported by the other jurisdiction to North Dakota's records. If the other jurisdictions order is modified by a North Dakota court, the order becomes subject to North Dakota interest charges.
